See how shared costs move with Sankey.

Attribution answers what a cost belongs to, showbacks carry shared cost on to the teams that use it, and Analytics now has a Spend Flow view that puts that movement in one picture. It is a Sankey chart, reached from the Showback flows button alongside bar, line, area, pie, stat, table and heatmap. Pick an attribution node and the chart lays out what the node carries directly, the volume moving through it, and what it carries in total, so the gap between the first and the last is a shape on a page, easy to point at in a meeting.
It sits inside the same controls as the rest of Analytics, which is where most of the use is, choose the attribution and its nodes, filter by provider, group by service category, service name, subcategory or SKU meter, switch between net and gross pricing, and decide whether allocations and showbacks are included. Cost is amortised, and the chart and the table beneath it are built from the same grouping, so a flow is also a set of rows, daily columns, collapsible by node and service, searchable, exportable.
Say you have a shared cost you need to understand, a platform bill of $10,000 a month that three product teams all lean on, and you want to see how those teams use it and pay for it. Showbacks move $5,000 of that to checkout, $3,000 to search and $2,000 to the mobile app, and Spend Flow draws the month as three ribbons running from the platform to each team, each as wide as the dollars it carries. Checkout’s total is its own direct spend plus the $5,000 that arrived, the ribbon is the line that explains the difference, and that is the conversation a showback exists to start.
A showback works best when the team receiving it can follow the number, and a figure shown as a direct amount plus what moved in gives a product owner something to trace line by line, down to the SKU, while a controller preparing a showback pack gets the flow for the meeting and the rows for the follow-up question, from one place.
The view has a link of its own, so what somebody looked at on Tuesday is exactly what the next person opens on Thursday.
